British Columbia
Of BC's 4 million people, half live in the Vancouver area. Vancouver certainly earns its praise as one of the top destinations in America (Conde Nast), and one of the top five favorite cities in the world (Modern Maturity). Where else can you go heli-rafting right from downtown!
Just north of Vancouver is Whistler, a skier's mecca in the winter season, and a golfer's paradise in summer with four championship courses. To the east, by some 250 miles, is the Okanagan Valley, with 60 wineries and 30 golf courses. Just off the coast to the west, Vancouver Island is North America's largest island, anchored by charming Victoria on her southern tip, and with gems like Tofino and Clayquot, purveyor of 'glamping' (glamorous camping).
Alberta
Calgary is the gateway to Canada's fourth largest province, and home to the annual Calgary Stampede. Nearby are the world-famous resorts of Banff (the oldest national park), Lake Louise, and Jasper (the largest national park). Alberta is also home of the largest dinosour museum in the world and a trout fishing paradise.
Rocky Mountaineer
Rail buffs and those desiring a different type of vacation may enjoy the deluxe Rocky Mountaineer train experience. The traditional route is between Jasper-Banff-Calgary and Vancouver, though several itineraries are offered of from 2 to 4 days. Travelers ride the rails during the day, enjoying Canada's diverse scenery and terrific meal service, while overnighting in hotels enroute. Two classes of service are offered on Rocky Mountaineer.
