Let me help you plan a visit to some of my favorite destinations. I fell in love with Vietnam, from Hanoi to the Mekong Delta--the people, the sites, the accommodations and food, all are wonderful. Cambodia and the ruins at Angkor Wat are incredible. In China, the Great Wall is unforgettable, as are the terra cotta soldiers in Xian, the lovely gardens in Suzhou, and countless other China destinations. Thailand is lovely and exotic, and the people so friendly. Hing Kong is electric, and Malaysia is so varied with places like Malacca, an old ancient port, Penang Island, and of course the capital, Kuala Lumpur, with its mosques and modernity. Singapore is a great gateway to the rest of Asia, a good place to relax and to shop (though shopping everywhere in Asia is marvelous). I would love to return to every one of my Asian destinations, and to introduce you to any or all of them.

From lofty, mist-enshrouded volcanoes and cool mountain lakes, down through terraced rice fields to a golden strand lapped by azure waters, every square inch of Bali offers a fresh and unforgettable image. No less enchanting are its people, some 3 million souls whose artistry and piety are recognized throughout the world. Balinese Hinduism, a complex fusion of Indian cosmology, Tantric Buddhism and home-grown mythology is the primary faith of Bali’s inhabitants, and so deeply woven into the fabric of their daily lives that the line between the spiritual and the material is blurry at best. Having traveled from Thailand’s incredible beaches of the far south to the mystical mountains of the far north, with Bangkok in between, I would love to be your planning guide to this remarkable country, steeped in history. This is a country of diverse and incredible beauty, and smiling people who know the meaning of service. I have visited some wonderful beach resorts, as yet undiscovered by Americans. They boast 4 and 5 star accommodations at prices that would be 3 star pricing in Europe. Thailand is a shopping mecca where the dollar goes far. At the night markets you can get some awesome bargains from local merchants made in Thailand, not China, that are easily quadrupled in price in the US. In the high mountains near the Myanmar border I discovered another secret destination that is beyond words to describe. Small boutique properties and cottages gaze out over waving fields of rice paddies with purple-blue mountains as the back drop. If you enjoy trekking, visit Sapa in Vietnam to see the Minority Groups in the area. Halong Bay in Vietnam is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. Cambodia and the ruins at Angkor are incredible. In China, the Great Wall is unforgettable, as are the terra cotta soldiers in Xian, the lovely gardens in Suzhou, and countless other China destinations. Thailand is lovely and exotic, and the people so friendly. Laos is still wonderful, a largely untouched destination, with Buddist temples which are awe-inspiring. While in Luang Prabang, you can rise before dawn to help feed a long line of saffron robed Monks. Hong Kong is electric, and Malaysia is so varied with places like Malacca, an old ancient port, Penang Island, and of course the capital, Kuala Lumpur, with its mosques and modernity. Singapore is a great gateway to the rest of Asia, a melding of three cultures, and a good place to relax and to shop although shopping everywhere in Asia is marvelous. I have long had a passion for travel to Asia, having first travelled to China more than 20 years ago. I know China very well, but Asia is much, much more than China. From the ultra modern cities of Tokyo, Seoul or Hong Kong to the remoteness of the Mongolian Grasslands or the jungles of Cambodia, Asia offers an incredible variety of experiences. Listen to chanting in a Buddhist Monastery, see the treasure in the museums of Seoul, Taipei or Shanghai, mingle with the bustling crowds in Saigon, and taste some of the most incredible food in the world! I have not been everywhere in Asia…. yet, but I am working on it. I have first hand, on the ground experience throughout much of Asia, an extensive network of contacts in much of the continent, and an academic background in Asian Studies.
