6 tips for a successful vacation
The more you "engage" in your vacation, the more likely you'll optimize your personal enrichment and gratification.
1. Don't wait till the last minute
Many travelers think if they wait till the last minute, they pick up the best deal. While there are times this occurs, it's less likely to be the case. If you plan to travel over a holiday period or peak travel time for that destination, always plan as early as you can. Each year we disappoint customers who wait too late. Remember: the early bird always gets the choicest worm.
2. Don't wing it
Travelers that invest in learning in advance about where they're going will get all the more from their experience. Review travel books, videos and talk to our travel experts for their advice. Spend some time reading about the history. Find a novel that takes place in the destination.
3. Don't book your trip piecemeal
Don't book one hotel online because you think it's a great deal, book another hotel with a travel agency, book your car elsewhere, and book sightseeing with yet another company. When we understand everything you're planning to do, we can often price it out for less than pricing individual components separately to get you the best overall value.
4. Plan for flexibility
One of the most important maxims when on the road is to be flexible and go with the flow. Inspite of the best planning, the unexpected happens. It's good if you can cushion your itinerary with an extra day or two, and not to plan each day so tightly that one surprise doesn't ruin your entire day.
5. Don't be the ugly tourist
Act towards others as you'd like them to act towards you, with respect and dignity. Become familiar with local customs and be respectful of other cultures. In addition to remaining flexible, it's important to be patient and have realistic expectations.
6. Don't wait till you're back home to raise a red flag.
